The CMAA lion dance team has embarked on its journey on the mainstream competitive platform. While the traditional routines of “Caiching”are still being practiced, the emphasis now is on competition routines using WFM tournament standard regulations and stilts formation.

Nelson Nguang Kim Ban who had been with CMAA for fifteen years is now the coach. Nelson had made numerous study trips to Penang and Kuala Lumpur to keep abreast of developments in the art of lion dancing.

In 1992, the CMAA lion dance team emerged runners up (traditional Zhai Zing) in the Sarawak lion dance championship held in Sibu, Sarawak. In 2003, the CMAA lion dance team qualified for the finals and earned the Merit Award at the 1st Borneo Cup Lion Dance Championship held in Miri in their maiden outing into stilts formation routine tournament with a thematic display of “A Tribute To Chivalry”.

The CMAA Lion Dance team members are young, enthusiastic and are keen in their practices. They have set an ambitious target to make a breakthrough into the national scene in 2004. Can expect to hear more from them in future.
