The Minister for Social Development & Urbanization YB Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom in announcing the event said that such cultural and sports event serves to promote national integration and he is delighted to learn that many teams from West Malaysia will be coming to Sarawak for the first time to participate in an event of this stature. While the event will be showcase of the diverse and harmonious culture of Malaysia, it is certainly also a good opportunity for locals to enjoy watching good dragon and lion dance teams in action noting that several teams are Malaysian champion teams that are Malaysian representatives for the Hanoi Asian Indoor Games 2009.

YB Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom was accompanied by YB Tuan Hj Hamden Bin Hj Ahmad the Assistant Minister for Tourism & Youth Affairs, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Social Development & Urbanization Tuan Ik Pahon Joyik to launch the championship logo together with Chinese Martial Art Association (CMAA) officials led by its association Chairman Chester Lim. The CMAA officials present were Master Law Kaw Chai, Lee King Choon, Chin Chiu Hian, Nelson Nguang, Calvin Kong, Lee Han Woon & Kelvin Jong.

CMAA Chairman Chester Lim expressed appreciation for the support from Ministry of Social Development & Urbanization and event main sponsor Cash Sweep and is looking forward to more sponsorship from private sector to make the event a success. While we were projecting a participation of thirty teams, the response of fifty teams to date is overwhelming and this means we have to be prepared to cater for the increase. This is probably the biggest ever for Sarawak in terms of participation enthused Chester. Competition is expected to be very keen and will be scheduled for the two whole days.
